Systems Protection: textile protection and shielding for harnesses

Systems Protection designs multi-material conduits, sleeves, tapes, and guards for wires, cables, hoses, and mechanical assemblies. The offering covers needs for abrasion, impact, thermal protection, EMI shielding, electrical insulation, acoustics, and harness management.

Historically originating from Bentley-Harris®, the brand was integrated with Federal-Mogul and then Tenneco. Systems Protection uses textile processes such as braiding, knitting, weaving, and non-wovens to adapt performance: mechanical strength, ease of installation, flexibility, fire/smoke resistance, and durability.

In railways, Systems Protection solutions are used to protect wiring harnesses in cabins, undercarriages, electrical cabinets, doors, bogies, and traction systems. Several ROUNDIT® products meet EN 45545-2 HL3 requirements according to the grades.

How to choose the right Systems Protection casing

The selection of a ROUNDIT® conduit depends on four technical parameters: temperature, fire/smoke requirements, EMI needs, and installation method. This approach avoids oversizing and allows for the selection of the grade suited to the actual harness.

FAQ — ROUNDIT® et Systems Protection

ROUNDIT® is a self-wrapping sleeve designed to protect electrical harnesses, cables, and assemblies against abrasion, vibration, heat or interference depending on the grade. Its openable construction allows for installation without dismantling the harness, making it particularly suitable for retrofitting, maintenance, and hard-to-reach areas.
ROUNDIT® is a wrappable solution: it opens and closes around an already installed harness. Expando® is an expandable tubular sleeve: the cable generally needs to be inserted before assembly. ROUNDIT® is therefore more suitable for existing harnesses, while Expando® is suitable for continuous lengths without derivations.
For a railway application, the ROUNDIT® 2000 FR and ROUNDIT® 2000 V0 references are generally the most relevant. They combine mechanical protection, fire/smoke performance, and EN 45545-2 R22/R23 HL3 compliance depending on grade, diameter, and usage configuration.
Yes, ROUNDIT® EMI versions incorporate conductive materials such as nickel-plated copper, tin-plated copper or specific metallic constructions. They help reduce electromagnetic interference on sensitive cables, traction systems, power cables and control applications.
FyreJacket® is recommended for protecting cables, hoses, or busbars exposed to heat, flames, or splashes. For battery or thermal runaway areas, Protexx-Shield®, FyreJacket® 1650, and FyreJacket® 1660 can be used to address thermal barriers, electrical insulation, and the protection of cooling lines.
Yes. The self-wrapping design of ROUNDIT® allows protection to be added to an already wired loom, without disconnection or complete disassembly. This feature reduces downtime and simplifies protection for areas subject to abrasion or vibration.
The main criteria are operating temperature, abrasion level, fire/smoke requirements, EMI needs, cable bundle diameter, and installation method. For railway applications, EN 45545 compliance and ease of installation are generally prioritised.
ADDEV Materials distributes Systems Protection products worldwide and assists clients in selecting the correct reference. ADDEV can also adapt formats through cutting to length, kitting, and specific packaging to facilitate integration in production, maintenance, or retrofitting.
